US Takes Step to Block Foreign Aid to Overseas Abortion Providers

“We will refuse to provide assistance to foreign NGO’S that give financial support to other foreign groups in the global abortion industry”…

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced Tuesday the expansion of the Trump administration’s ban on US aid to groups that promote or provide abortions.

Pompeo said he’s extended the ban to include organizations that may follow the rules while simultaneously passing funding along to other groups that don’t.

The secretary said the Trump administration will not allow American taxpayer money to pay for “backdoor funding schemes” for abortion.

“The American people should rest assured that this administration and this State Department and our USAID will do all we can to safeguard US taxpayer dollars and protect and respect the sanctity of life for people all around the globe,” Pompeo said.

Pompeo said the administration was committed to protecting “the sanctity of life” in the United States and abroad and would enforce the policy “to the broadest extent possible” by not allowing foreign non-governmental organizations to skirt the ban.

“We will refuse to provide assistance to foreign NGOs that give financial support to other foreign groups in the global abortion industry,” Pompeo told reporters at the State Department. “We will enforce a strict prohibition on backdoor funding schemes and end runs around our policy. American taxpayer dollars will not be used to underwrite abortions.”

Critics say this hurts reproductive and maternal health care in developing nations.

Pompeo denied that claim and said the US would continue to be a leader in such aid. The US spends $9 billion to support global health programs. It wasn’t immediately clear how much would be cut, but pro-choice advocates were furious at the news.

“This administration’s obsession with attacking women’s reproductive health is egregious and dangerous,” Sen. Jean Shaheen (D-NH) said. “Further expanding the global gag rule puts international organizations in an impossible position: provide women the full scope of reproductive health care services or deny critical funding that saves lives. That is unconscionable.”

Pro-life groups welcomed the move.

The Susan B. Anthony Fund praised Pompeo’s decision in a statement, saying: “We are excited to see Secretary Pompeo taking additional steps to ensure that Americans’ hard-earned dollars are actually used for health assistance, not funneled to groups that push abortion.”

Congress Will Continue Opening Sessions in Prayer Despite Challenge by Atheist

“Our rights come from God, so it’s only fitting that the House begins each day united in prayer.”

WASHINGTON—  Congress will continue opening sessions in prayer after a challenge to the tradition by an atheist. A federal court ruled against the lawsuit brought by Daniel Barker, co-president of Freedom From Religion Foundation.

He argued he has denied the opportunity to give an opening invocation in Congress although other guest chaplains were allowed to do so. U.S. District Judge Rosemary M. Collyer said in her decision that House rules didn’t allow Barker the to lead the prayer because he had left his faith.

Collyer also pointed out opening prayer has been a part of Congress for more than two centuries and it doesn’t conflict with the establishment clause according to the United States Supreme Court.

House Speaker Paul Ryan was quick to applaud the decision.

“Since the first session of the Continental Congress, our nation’s legislature has opened with a prayer to God. Today, that tradition was upheld and the freedom to exercise religion was vindicated. The court rightfully dismissed the claims of an atheist that he had the right to deliver a secular invocation in place of the opening prayer,” Ryan said.

“Recently, especially following the return of Majority Whip Steve Scalise, this institution has been reminded about the power of prayer. I commend the District Court for its decision, and I am grateful that the People’s House can continue to begin its work each day as we have for centuries: taking a moment to pray to God,” Ryan concluded.

Scalise also responded to the decision on Twitter saying, “Our rights come from God, so it’s only fitting that the House begins each day united in prayer.” Barker says Collyer’s decision was tainted by her “personal bias against nonreligious people. Collyer was appointed to the court by George W. Bush.

‘Satanist Group’ Fizzles in Tacoma School

Atheists masquerading as a so-called Satanist Temple group recently ended its after-school program at Point Defiance Elementary School in Tacoma.

ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 18, 2017 /Christian Newswire/ — Atheists masquerading as a so-called Satanist Temple group recently ended its after-school program at Point Defiance Elementary School in Tacoma. The After-School Satan Club ceased meeting soon after teachers from the Seattle Satanic Temple offered their first meeting in December 2016. Apparently, only one child joined the club.

The group states that its purpose is to target the districts where Good News Clubs meet after school. The Good News Clubs are sponsored by Child Evangelism Fellowship.

Tacoma School Board’s decision last year to allow the Satanist club drew protests from parents who asked school officials to ban it. The Satanic Temple is an atheist organization known for controversial publicity stunts proclaiming it is a Satanic group in order to scare school boards into blocking access to the Good News Clubs. The After-School Satan Club promotes evolution, gender confusion, and abortion to club attendees.

Good News Clubs are for children ages 5-12 and teach morals and character development from a Christian viewpoint. In 2001, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Good News Clubs have a First Amendment right to meet on campus after school. Liberty Counsel represents CEF nationwide and has never lost a CEF case.
